A 9ct Gold Tiger And Rose Badge 1970

Type 44 Tiger and Rose Badge

This is a very rare and unusual badge in that it is cast in 9ct gold, hallmarked Sheffield 1970. Its purpose is unknown but is unlikely to have been worn in military headdress due to its value.

It has been suggested that it could have been a presentation piece produced for officers of the regiment after disbandment or perhaps a wife or sweetheart badge. It is difficult to accept the latter as a legitimate use as the loops would have caused damage to clothing once attached.  Normally such sweetheart badges would be fixed by means of a broach fitting.
