Home Guard Arm Band 70th Staincross Home Guard Barnsley - Copy

This Local Defence Volunteers (LDV) arm band belonged to Arthur Frith of the 70th Battalion West Riding Home Guard.  

These armbands were issued to identify member of the LDV as uniforms were in short supply. The arm bands would have been worn on top of civilian coats and were used from May 1940 when the LDV was formed until 22nd July 1940 when the LDV changed its name to Home Guard. 

The 70th Battalion were based in Staincross in Barnsley.
