On a silver star is a gilt laurel wreath. Inside that is a strap with the words ‘YORK AND LANCASTER’ in gilt on a blue enamelled background.
In the centre of the strap is a red enamelled background with the number ‘84’ in silver with a silver Rose.

The laurel wreath and strap are surmounted by a gilt Coronet and below the wreath is a silver scroll with the word ‘NIVE’.

An example exists in the York and Lancaster regimental museum that has a gilt rose below the number 84.
