Success at sports both within the Regiment and at higher level such as Brigade and Division was highly sought after. Medals were awarded for a variety of sports including swimming, running, boxing, football and so on. The period between the two world wars appears to have generated the most sporting type medals.
The medals were made in a variety of metals including bronze, brass and silver (The examples shown are made of brass for football and bronze for swimming). They type of medals may have been made in gold but if so, they are not very common.
